It has been a while since i did a nutrition-related FTF tip, so today I wanted to briefly address a common question or consideration in the fitness world. Should you remove the yolk??
The answer is NO!! You should not! With only a few exceptions (i.e. if you have a condition that requires you to have a very low-cholesterol diet), whole eggs are better than egg whites!
Why? For one, if you remove the yolk you miss out on virtually 99% of the vitamins and minerals that eggs provide! (See nutrition comparison chart below). Yes, the majority of the calories are in the yolk as well… but calories are NOT inherently bad! You need to get them from somewhere, and there are few better places to get them from than eggs!
But most importantly for many, and for our consideration today, studies show that whole eggs promote significantly more post-exercise muscle growth than egg whites – even if you control for an equal amount of protein in each!!
APPLICATION: Eat whole eggs!
